On a more positive note, my fantasy baseball team is doing well. Third place behind POC and POB. I have been as low as 2nd to last place but since I finished finals, I've been paying a bit more attention to it and my players have just been smoking hot the last month or so. As a result, I'm rapidly gaining ground. To me, a fantasy baseball season is alot like a stage in the Tour De France. Some teams jump out to an early lead due to some hot bats or favorable early season matchups. As April ends and May begins, the stronger teams start to position themselves trying to address glaring weaknesses with key waiver wire additions. A peloton starts to form of all the middle of the pack teams. Many of the early leaders fall back to the peloton due to the cooling off of their hot starters and as injuries start to take a toll on teams. When May ends and June begins, teams really start calculating their strengths and weaknesses. To address their weaknesses, they look to trade away some of their strengths to shore up their weaknesses. For those teams that are at the end of the pack, it's time to look towards next year: trading away some of their players for keeper level players for next season. June, July, and August are like the French Pyrenees mountains, hard key months that solidify the standings; separating the contenders with elite teams away from the peloton. By the end of August, the contenders are clear and September is the sprint to the finish where people play some special teams players (guys who specialize in one category) more than others who may be better overall players in the hopes of gaining those extra one or two points in those special categories that will make the difference in the end standings. Right now POC has the yellow jersey. POB only a few points behind. And after separating itself out from the peloton, my team is chasing them both. And that's fantasy baseball...
