I know that my posts may seem a bit depressing and may seem to be kinda sad but really, I'm on an emotitional and spiritual high. Really. It's just that my law school stuff is kinda sad. Like we watched an hour long video on Friday about battered women and how the police and the justice system did not protect them 15 years ago. In fact, 15 years ago, women who had been battered who were convicted of killing their husbands/significant others were sentenced more harshly than serial rapists and other murderers statistically. Isn't that sad? The even sadder part was that for many of the women, their husbands/significant others had threatened to kill them before and often times, these women had called the police but had not received any help from them. These women were living nightmares: facing daily beatings by their husbands, who were supposed to protect them, raising children, while getting no protection from the police nor judges who did not believe their story. You and the judges ask, "Why can't they just leave their husbands?" Where do you go when you cannot afford the rent by yourself? Where do you go when your husband tells you that if you ever leave, he'll kill you? Where do you go when there is no place to go? Fortunately, the system has changed so that women who complain of assault by their husbands are automatically given the benefit of the doubt and the husbands are taken away by the cops. Before, the cops could do nothing in a domestic dispute.

As you can see, the material we study in law school bites because it's just sad and depressing.

However, I'm on a high. Really, I am. Praise God for salvation. Praise Him for allowing me to know the sweet joy it is to be in Christ and to know that God has prepared a better place for us than this sinful imperfect world we currently live in.
